Hello and welcome to WIMINsider.com! I am so glad that you are here.

WIMINsider (Women In Music INsider) is a project I started dreaming up in September 2016. I know, I know, it took a while to come into fruition, but I am so excited that it's finally here, and even more excited that you decided to check it out.

This idea originally came to me the day I moved into my apartment in Chicago to start my senior year at Columbia College Chicago. I noticed that Twitter was afire because a male photographer made a comment about women being in the way at shows and a bunch of ladies began defending themselves, as they, too, have a purpose at shows. I'll spare all the details of the argument because at this point I've forgotten them all, but the important takeaway here is that I knew I needed to do something about this. I wanted to create a community of women in the music industry, somewhere that they could talk about their experiences and tell their stories. I originally debated creating a forum, but I realized that I didn't want this platform to be some kind of exclusive club that only some people can join. I want everyone, female or male, old or young, involved in the music industry or just a fan, to benefit from the stories we are sharing, so now we are a completely public blog.

The idea behind WIMINsider is to highlight hardworking women in the music industry and to inspire the next generation of young women interested in pursuing music business careers. I realized quickly that instead of sitting around and complaining about the supposed lack of women in the music industry, I could be using my resources to make a difference by bringing visibility to those who are out there working in the industry. By showing off the incredible ladies doing their thing in this business, we can inspire the next generation of girls who want to work in music. We shouldn't be discouraged by the thought of the industry as a "boy's club." Though statistically, we aren't equal just yet, we are making progress, and we'll continue to do so by encouraging young women to follow their music dreams because we are every bit as capable of succeeding in this business as men are.

So whether you are an accomplished female in the music business, a male ally to our mission, a young woman dreaming of a music industry career, or someone who simply wanted to see what we're all about here, welcome to WIMINsider. I hope you leave inspired.

Please feel free to navigate around our site to learn more about our featured women, College Ambassador program, and more. Do not hesitate to reach out to wiminsider@gmail.com with questions, comments, or concerns or to share your story- we are dying to hear it.

Best,

Allison Lanza
